In reading this story, I cannot help but be reminded of my own relational disasters. I have tried to rush things, or I have tried to make certain relationships work, only to see it's consequential downfall. I have come to the conclusion that love is messy. It has no reason. You cannot make it, buy, or conjure it up. Love happens. But true love only comes from one place, and that is from Jesus. "No greater love than this, than for a man to lay down his life for a friend". While I was reading this story it brought to mind the frailness of "human love". All the love we could ever show to one another put together would not even be a drop in the bucket compared to God's love. So I painted this, not so good, picture of the image that comes to mind which is what I talk about when I talk about true love.

Thanks for painting this as well as for your explanation of it.
I have to agree with you about the "messiness" of romantic or relational love involving humans. Of course, we can't just say "it's messy" and be done with it. Which is not what you are doing, of course. Instead, we need to wrestle with and try to deal with people in love--in all its messiness.
The aim is to make our human love as full of spiritual love--love in Christ--as possible. And of course only God can work this in us. But even there, as your painting demonstrates so well, even God-love can get really, really messy when people are involved, and people are always involved.
I think that one way to take part in aiming for that kind of love is to wrestle with love in the human context. And one way to do that is through literature.
I really wish I could just take your words and put them on my blog. I totally agree with what you say. Pretty much, what I'm saying is great job! You did great on the painting too! I love that picture. Even though you said it was not so good, it's way better than I can do.
I love all of the pictures that you are including within your blogs. I love the picture of the cross when you are trying to describe true love. But can we as humans truly portray true love? I don't believe so. I think that we can strive to portray true love, but we will always fall short. That is why we must constantly be striving to let God's love flow through us. Because God's love, is TRUE LOVE.
I like the pictures you are including in your blogs as well... Love is messy I agree..

That is a really potent line; it struck me. I like it a lot.
